Race for the Cure!

Vote for the Cure! It gives all of us a chance to challenge the candidates to make breast cancer a priority in their campaigns. Click Here: I raced - well, okay, walked in the 10th Annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in St. Petersburg this morning. Our team is The Happy Bottom Pink Dragonflies, named to honor Heather's grandmother.
Our youngest member is Emma, dressed in pink for the occasion and wearing racing number 1.

She is the sweetest happiest baby I have ever known, and took the day in stride. She had her juice and her cheese crackers, lots of attention, and enjoyed the day.

Team Captain, Emma's mom, Heather (left), DJ (Heather's mom) and Drew Heather's daughter are pictured above. Heather, and friends, Irene and Dana, also raced the 5K and came back to the finish line for the 1 mile walk which we all did together. Camille and I rounded up the team

We are at the starting line and ready to go! The team in the red shirts ahead of us listed the survivors they are celebrating. I walked in honor of my sister Mary as well as my friends Suzanne, Olga and Debby, and Heather's grandmother.

It was a beautiful day, cool by Florida standards with a nice breeze off of Tampa Bay. We didn't melt.

Thousands of survivors and supporters raced and walked for the cure. St. Petersburg was a sea of pink. The women survivors were given special pink shirts and hats. The men survivors -Yes! men can get breast cancer too! - were given gray shirts and hats to wear and all received medals at the end of their race.

Two of my friends were diagnosed with breast cancer just within the last few weeks! Both ladies found a lump during self examination. Both ladies are on the way to recovery. Don't forget to do your self examination every month! And get those mammograms! October is Breast Cancer Awareness month - so be aware and take care of yourselves!
